I especially like the encouragement to share the story of a transformed life as a part of the presentation. People and churches need to know that their money helps to accomplish something. What better way is there to demonstrate this than by the testimony of a changed life? This starts with sharing the burden with the pastor. Generally speaking, if the pastor does not support the missionary then the church will not either.
Shadrach also has some interesting observations on unique challenges in working with churches. Next week, I will mention several points the book makes that give me pause. Then I got to the "how-to" part and suddenly I couldn't put the book down. Whereas it took me weeks just to read the fi Wow! Whereas it took me weeks just to read the first few chapters, it took me two or three days to read most of the book. That is not to say the beginning isn't essential- it's just that I personally already felt called to support raise and I didn't need much convincing that support raising was from God though I wasn't at all familiar with the actual Bible stories and I'm very appreciative of this information.
I was mostly afraid of the actual "doing" part. By the end of the book, I felt like I'd blasted through "Embrace" and created a whole new category called "Ridiculously Excited. It made me wish I could go back to my first year of fundraising and do it all over again after all the mistakes I had made! It also was very helpful and practical for ideas that I want to go over with Nathan now to do a better job at making asks and developing ministry partners. As I read it, my beliefs were consistently challenged, and I've come away with a renewed perspective on living on financial support.
The lower rating is merely because I feel Shadrach has too closely equated American industriousness with a biblical work ethic.

This book has a lot to say on a Biblical perspective for support-raising, and it includes many practical ideas and tools to help the fundraiser. The Holy Spirit is the One who causes ministry to bear fruit, and this book helped me think through new ways I can pray for my husband, our supporters, our mission field, etc.

Highly recommended. The biggest idea after reading this book? You have to have the courage to ask.
Get a clear vision and communicate it with passion, pray and then go big. Stories of people who raised their money in one month, two months,etc. Very encouraging. Great book to read but the work is making the meetings and picking up the phone. May 26, Mike rated it it was amazing. This is one of the best books on support raising that I have read. It casts vision well from the scriptures. It also does a great job in helping you not feel ashamed of raising support but rather see yourself as God's representative who is calling others to join the mission to reach the lost. Shadrach also gives many practical advice and stories from his own fundraising.
