The war launched by the Philistines and the defiance of Goliath v. The Philistines invaded Israel at Shochoh in Judah v. Opposite them was an invading army of thousands who bitterly hated the Israelites and sought to enslave and subject them to serve the Philistine nation. The Israelite forces knew they were in a fight for their very survival.
A spirit of apprehension and fear was bound to be gripping their hearts. But an even greater fear was about to surge through their veins, a paralyzing fear. The Philistines sent forth a giant warrior named Goliath who issued a hostile challenge to the Israelites v. In other words, Goliath says the issue would be settled by the representative of each side.
